Queue Olaf singing ” In suuuuummmmmeerrrr!”
You should know who Olaf is by now and if you don’t you cannot be helped!
Anywho Tis the season for the garden, the beach, later nights and slower mornings. Bare with me as I take a few more hours to respond to messages and also an extra day or two on order shipments. I try to enjoy the time with my little one and husband when we can. Life is so short. I’ve learned this one a few times over recently with the passing of two friends from back home.
Both of them had serious demons, addiction, depression… I mean we all have demons. Can’t we talk about that for a moment? We ALL have them.
We aren’t so different from one another. There are a LOT of healing modalities. I am a big proponent for alternative channels of healing, clearly.
You don’t have to be this guru with anything to do this either. A mandala coloring books is a great start but you know what really helps me almost all the time? Music.
So in honor Of Steve and KC – here is 11 Hours of Music – “SINGED SUMMER”
As compiled by me, BethKaya. See you in space kids. XOBK
Everything has been crazy hectic. Everyone I KNOW is going through turbulence. Sometimes when everything is a dang ass mess (one of my fav things to say these days) you need to crank up some tunes, make a lil cocktail and shake that azz like you don’t give a F&*K!
First Aid Kits third full album, “Stay Gold”, is a folk filled, haunting journey that will leave you happily nostalgic. This is their first album with Columbia Records and it shows a lot of potential. It’s full of melodic harmonies, matter of fact lyrics and it has a 13 piece orchestra to boot.
Swedish sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg began composing at a very young age. They released their first home recorded single “tangerine” and quickly began getting airplay in Sweden. They were eventually noticed by Jack White who invited them to record a single in his studio which got the ball rolling for the American circuit. They became friends with Conner Oberst who brought them on stage to collaborate with Bright Eyes which led them to Mike Mogis of Saddle Creek Records. He produced their second album “The Lions Roar” which hit the Billboard Charts but never got much recognition aside from the single “EmmyLou”.
Third album, “Stay Gold”, is an eclectic mix that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster of sound. There are a lot of parallels in with this album and the Bright Eyes album “First Day of My Life”. It’s obvious that Oberst has influenced these sisters in all the right ways. The album starts with “My silver lining” which is about moving forward and being empowered and it ends with “A long time ago” which makes you stop, hang your head, and relive heart break. This is the kind of album you blast with the windows down on a pretty day when you need to sing your guts out.
I’m not certain these girls have honed in on their own personal sound but I foresee good things for them in the folk market and as long as they continue to grow their sound I would imagine they will have a long and lucrative career.
You can catch them on tour in the U.S. this fall or at:
Lots of tinkering and assignments going on in the studio. We are accepting more entertainment/event centered projects lately among these, DJ gigs! I hadn’t had my recording and mixing equipment set up in the studio for a while but after a recent lil gig in a local firehouse to benefit the Providence House (Local Women’s Abuse Shelter) ; I got the itch to free mix/record.So here’s the first bite from my “Jigglebop” series. It’s music from all eras, synth heavy, headbob & jiggle your hips heavy.
Perfect for spring – > check in for the next installment!
Remember those people in school who were SO dedicated to the yearbook. My how we forget their coordinating, their serious dedication to every little aspect of remembering your fabulous year at school? It’s been a mission to get people on board to write on this site, not for anything other than to diversify a movement I see taking place already. One that’s earnest, laced in culture and spirit.
One of these universal things I think we can ALL submit to, is the power and movement in music. Face it, there is always a song that describes your feelings. EACTLY how you feel. So rather than do a poll on facebook I privately reached out to people. Just people I want to hear from. Honest people who aren’t shoving themselves down anyone’s throat.
Face book is kind of *ducks* taking humanity and connection away from us in real life. There’s something missing now and we all admit it. We are ALL online and there is NO going back. There are times when to pull the plug and there are times to plug the heck in. Crazy things go down in our lives. Every one of us has this amazing depth of knowledge to share and also, where is the real reporting going? Things are ON FIRE in the world today. Cities are BURNING waiting for their revolution! We are the people reporting the REAL news. Social Media is your favorite magazine and newscast all in one space. Let fill it with sharing pieces of our real selves.
REAL SHARING in my most humble of not so humble opinion can change the apathetic, robotic climate we are creating.
So here’s my first piece in a series of “YEARBOOK” style pieces. These pieces are meant to draw people out, to participate, to have a voice in a choir of voices eager for change, renewal, growth & happiness. They’re dedicated to other peoples worlds, remarks and mementos to capture the essence of us all, in the gut, right now.
LYRICS THAT MOVE YOU?
Beth Erxleben – (BethKaya) -> “All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be” – Pink Floyd, Breathe
“When nothing is owed or deserved or expected And your life doesn’t change by the man that’s elected If you’re loved by someone, you’re never rejected Decide what to be and go be it.” – The Avett Brothers – “Head Full of Doubt Road Full Of Promise”
“When I close my eyes the world falls through there is one initial truth that history is in our hands, we can choose the path, we are not under contract to continue living in a way that doesn’t allow a free flow of positive energy and true wholesome living. We can change it all but it starts with us. We must be brothers and sisters first and care, do a whole lot of caring. We have the power if only we closed our eyes long enough to start truly seeing.”
Kelly Hecht ->
“I’m the hero of the story don’t need to be saved” -Regina Spektor, Hero
I would say Pink Floyd Fearless. “You say the hill’s too steep to climb, you say you’d like to see me try. you pick the place and I’ll choose the time, and I’ll climb that hill in my own way. Just wait a while for the right day. And as I rise above the treeline and the clouds, I’ll look down, hearing the sound of the things you said today”
